As both a student and educator, I am led to frequently deal with logical fallacies and cognitive dissonance. Some definitions are in order.
“a fixed false belief that is resistant to reason or confrontation with actual fact: a paranoid delusion.”
“an uncomfortable mental state resulting from conflicting cognitions; usually resolved by changing some of the cognitions.”
Some say that CO2 is a pollutant and is the general cause of planetary warming, which is attributed to man.
“any substance, as certain chemicals or waste products, that renders the air, soil, water, or other natural resource harmful or unsuitable for a specific purpose.”
On the contrary, CO2 actually “renders the air!” It is a gas found in nature, which is plant oxygen.
“CO2 for different people has different attractions. After all, what is it? – it’s not a pollutant, it’s a product of every living creature’s breathing, it’s the product of all plant respiration, it is essential for plant life and photosynthesis, it’s a product of all industrial burning, it’s a product of driving – I mean, if you ever wanted a leverage point to control everything from exhalation to driving, this would be a dream. So it has a kind of fundamental attractiveness to bureaucratic mentality.” – Richard S. Lindzen, Ph.D. Professor of Atmospheric Science, MIT
Or how about the fact that the earth gets warm, then 800 years later, CO2 levels decide to rise.
Try another one, if the special airplane fuel that was used on September 11th, 2001 was able to melt steel and obviously incinerate the airplane and all aboard, how is it possible that it was not able to melt a paper passport?
How was it possible that it burned through steel, clothing, human flesh and the passports of all passengers except that of the terrorist hijacker, whose passport went to hell and back only to land in the rubble (not planted by the FBI) before it was shipped to China so as to not be investigated?
Forecasting & Confirming Hypotheses
When a hypothesis is tested and confirmed, this validation is then able to successfully forecast the issue at hand, which generally means it is true and correct.
So how is it that climate alarmists have failed in all their forecasting to accurately predict the weather?
How is it that astrophysicist Piers Corbyn, whose forecasts I have actually purchased and been fantastically amazed by, beats them all with an 85% rate of accuracy?
He discards any notion of CO2 affecting climate and solely measures solar and lunar activity, utilizing his groundbreaking “Solar Lunar Action Technique.”
By the objective standards of the scientific method, any sane and rational person would contend that the latter camp is in order and may discard the former.
Emotional and cognitive immaturity will lead you down the path of delusion. The only way to fight it is one stab of the beast at a time.
My most proven method: never spend an excess amount of time on any one subject. Spray, pray, and move on. The truth will eventually speak for itself and vindicate you.
Or the subjects will remain in Plato’s cave.
I recall a graduate course I took in leadership, held by a psychologist. A friend and I gave a smashing presentation, having compared President Obama and his policies to those of Hitler, as well as the Reichstag event to the 9/11 WTC event. I had the scientific journal evidence to factually prove it (nano-thermite).
The professor subsequently invited solely my friend and I to coffee (the professor was a homosexual, hence we rationalized the purpose of the visit based on the available data). In the middle of the conversation, we realized he had been psycho-evaluating us instead of hitting on us. He ratted us out to “the chief.”
Throughout our university stay, we not only complained of “Reichstag events,” we diligently discussed the “new world order” and “world government” and not from a very flattering angle.
Funny thing was, during our last lecture by “the chief” (big fan of H.G. Wells and possessor of a Freemasonic ring to boot), he not only derided “black sheep mentality” (as I like to call it), but announced that there was “nothing wrong with the belief in a world state…it would come in ten or twenty years” (rough paraphrase).
Fast forward a few years later.
Turns out, a number of the professor’s colleagues in the field of psychology declared anyone not able to question the questionable official story of that New York day as suffering from a severe case of cognitive dissonance and delusion. In fact, the psychologists stated, you must be insane not to question the narrative.
Regarding Obama, the passage of the National Defense Authorization Act, ACTA, and the contemplation of the Enemy Expatriation Act as well as SOPA yet again vindicated my previous projection of Obama’s use of Hitlerian tactic.
In the end, as a student, I had done my job. I sprayed my fellow students and professors with the fortified information, prayed, and moved on.
At a later date and with myself also possessing the title of “professor,” I sent a note to my old teacher regarding his psychologist colleagues and their research on cognitive dissonance. I never heard from the professor again.
Not long ago, I posted the link to a mini-documentary made by 1500+ of the world’s top architects, explosives experts and engineers to a class announcement, not even having presented it during the lecture. A student later showed it to his father, who had worked for an extended period at an American consulate. His father, having long suffered from a mild case of cognitive dissonance, after spending merely fifteen minutes viewing the documentary film stated: “Son, you’re absolutely right” (paraphrase).
I had been on the right side of history. Each skirmish was a small victory with unintended consequences.
And the battle rages on.
